“The spring is wound up tight. It will uncoil of itself. This is what is so convenient in tragedy. The least little turn of the wrist will do the job.

Jean Anouilh, Antigone as cited in “The Maidens” by Alex Michaelides

This quote from Antigone hit home for me. When the wheels are set in motion, there isn’t a single thing you can say or do to change the course of history. Simply chilling! Such a fitting quote for a book that heavily referenced Greek mythology and attempted to portray sadness and grief. Unfortunately, this book wasn’t what I expected. It started off slow, the main character was annoying and hard to relate to, but there was an unexpected plot twist at the end that almost redeemed this book for me.
